The closing date to submit nominations for an annual world-class Māori sports awards ceremony has been extended by one week – to Friday 7 November 2024.
The 34th Trillian Trust Māori Sports Awards will be hosted by Te Tohu Taakaro o Aotearoa Trust at Mercury Baypark Arena in Mount Maunganui on Saturday November 30 2024.
This year’s ceremony will pay tribute to Olympic gold medalists including Dame Lisa Carrington (Ngāti Porou, Te Aitanga-a-Māhaki), Ellesse Andrews (Ngāi Tahu) and Stacey Waaka (Ngāi Tuhoe) as well as Māori Sports Hall of Fame inductee, Riki Ellison (Ngāi Tahu) – the first New Zealander to play American football professionally in the United States and the first to win a Super Bowl.
Outstanding Māori athletes can be nominated in more than one category which include administrator, umpire/referee, para-athlete/team, coach, team, junior and senior sportswoman and sportsman, and individual Māori world champions.
An overall winner will be named as the Albie Pryor Memorial Māori Sports Person of the Year, Rongomaraeroa.
Nomination forms on the website – www.maorisportsawards.co.nz – can be completed in one of three different formats: electronic by downloading a PDF or Word document and sending by email; postal by printing off the electronic form, filling it in and sending it to Te Tohu Taakaro o Aotearoa Trust; or online which automatically submits the nomination information to the organisers.
The prestigious awards event recognises sporting achievements from 30 November 2023 to 1 November 2024 (or later depending on national and international events).
