“Te Maru ō Tūmatauenga”
Tumatauenga, Maori God of War, son of Ranginui and Papatuanuku all things relating to battle, courage, confrontation, anger and struggle came within the realms of Tumatauenga. The Maori Battalion was named after Tumatauenga – Te Hokowhitu a Tu.
It is the coach who is in the direct firing line in all sports, the coach decides the tactics, prepares the team and trains in the arm of combat. The coach is the general and accordingly acts within the authority of Tumatauenga. (Te Maru o Tumatauenga).
Tūmatauenga, atua o te pakanga, tama ā Ranginui rāua ko Papatūānuku me ngā mea katoa o te pakanga, he māia, he whakaanga, he riri me te uauatanga I roto I te ao o Tūmatauenga. Ko te tauā Māori I tapainga ki Te Hokiwhitu-ā-Tū.
Ko te kaiako te mea kei mua I te tira tangata o ia hākinakina, koia whakaaro ai mō ngā tātaitanga, whakareri I ngā tīma ka tereina I ā rātau. Ko te kaiako te tangata whakarite I ā ia ki Te Maru o Tūmatauenga.
